969,064. Delivering measured quantities of pulverulent material. SOC. PARISIENNE D'EXPANSION CHIMIQUE S.P.E.C.I.A. Jan. 24, 1962 [Jan. 25, 1961], No. 2727/62. Heading B8N. An apparatus for dispensing measured quantities of pulverulent material to containers comprises a rotatable plate 1 having measuring compartments 3 in a circular row and a fixed annular material magazine 6 arranged eccentrically to the plate so that the compartments pass below the magazine for filling and then pass beyond the outer wall 5; each chamber has a piston 11 which moves upwards to deliver the contents of the compartment to the top of the plate within U-shaped scrapers 16 rotating with and radially slidable on the plate so that they can push the material down shoots 9. The pistons 11 are lowered during filling of the compartments and raised during ejection of the contents by a cam 14 which can be adjusted vertically to vary the volume of the comportments. The scrapers may be spring-loaded and bear on the outer wall 5 of the eccentric annulus so that they move in and out. A support for raising a container 27 into filling position is actuated by a cam 24 and both the support and piston have a yielding connection with their cam followers to prevent damage if a jam occurs; also, if there is no container in place the over-elevation of the support cams a peg into a groove in the piston and prevents it rising. A level-sensing blade may be fitted in the magazine and operate contacts or a mercury switch to control a vibratory duct or motor-driven rotary agitator or distributer in the supply means to the magazine; such supply means may be the container or cans in which the material is supplied.
