Abstract

969,055. Fault testing. ELECTROFLO METERS CO. Ltd. Oct. 10,1962 [Dec. 14,1961], No.44880/61. Heading G1U. A temperature sensitive thermocouple 3 energizes a galvanometer 1 through calibration resistors 4, 2; the galvanometer deflection controlling the temperature of a furnace as described in Specifications 969,054 and 969,056. A Zenerdiode 5 is shunted across the galvanometer and resistor 2, and is energized over capacitor 6 and resistor 7 from A. C. energized transformer 8 so that the diode breakdown voltage is not exceeded while the thermocouple circuit is continuous, and the deflection is unaffected by the equal and opposite torque pulses produced in the galvanometer. Failure of the thermocouple circuit increases the resistance in parallel with the diode so that the latter conducts on alternate half cycles to cause full scale deflection of the galvanometer whereby the fault is indicated, a warning is operated and the furnace heating reduced.
