Abstract

A method of producing electrically conductive oxide layers on an electrically non-conductive support capable of withstanding temperatures above 200 DEG C. (e.g. glass, mica or ceramic), particularly for use as an electric resistor, comprises dissolving hydrolysable salts in water without the addition of acids or other hydrolysis-inhibiting substances, and applying (e.g. by spraying) the solution to the support heated to above 200 DEG C., the ratio between the salts and water in the solution being so chosen that the formation of visible aqueous suspensions of hydroxides or hydrated oxides of the salts does not occur and the oxide formation takes place substantially only on the hot support. Salts mentioned are the chlorides of Zn, Sb, Ti, Sn, Al, B, In, Bi and Si.
