968,054. Anaesthetic apparatus. CYPRANE Ltd. Feb. 4, 1963 [Feb. 15, 1962], No. 5809/62. Heading A5T. A vaporizing apparatus for a volatile liquid anaesthetic, includes a body 10 for containing liquid anaesthetic and wherein such liquid can be vaporized by the inflow of gas, a gas inlet port 7 to, and a gas-anaesthetic vapour outlet port 8 from, body 10, a casing 6 on the body 10 housing a rotary plate valve 19, means 22 externally of the casing 6 for manually operating said valve, a main inlet 14 and a main outlet 15 for connection to a gas supply source and a patient's inspiring mask respectively and for allowing a direct flow of gas through the casing 6, said valve 19 being positioned in relation to a pair of faces 26 having equal gradients, the arrangement being such that rotation of the valve first uncovers the gas inlet and gasanaesthetic outlet ports 7 and 8 and any further rotation varies the size of the passageway for the gas passing from inlet 14 to outlet 15 thus reducing the flow of gas for diluting the gasanaesthetic vapour mixture flowing out of port 8. The inflow of gas or outflow of gasanaesthetic vapour from body 10 may be controlled by temperature-responsive means. The rotary plate may be furnished with upstanding ribs. The faces may be quadrant shaped in plan. The apparatus is such that no liquid will pass into the valve casing whether the apparatus is upright, inverted or on its side.
