967,517. Grinding; workholders. MASCHINENFABRIK GERMANIA KARLMARK-STADT VEB. June 7, 1962, No. 22068/62. Heading B3D. Inclined arcuate depressions forming the wedge-like lubrication surfaces 14, Fig. 2, leading from the radial oil grooves 13 in the annular face of a thrust-bearing ring are ground by contact with a grinding wheel when the ring is mounted on a work-support, Fig. 1, comprising an upper portion 4 on which the ring is centred at 6 and a base portion 1 having a centring stud 3, the two portions being relatively helically movable by having screwthreaded engagement with a helix angle appropriate to the inclination of the lubrication surfaces 14. By moving the upper portion 4 by a handle or arm 12, either manually or mechanically, from contact with a stop 11, a helical arcuate groove is ground in the face of the thrust-ring. Spring-loaded stops 7 are screwed into tapped holes 17 in the ring to secure it during grinding. The support is mounted on an indexing head so that the oil grooves 13 can be brought successively beneath the grinding wheel. The surfaces 14 may be ground with inner or outer rings 15, 16, or one only of these rings or neither of the rings.
