Abstract
967,495. Ball &c. mills. SALZGITTER INDUSTRIEBAU G.m.b.H. March 9, 1961 [March 14, 1960], No. 8627/61. Heading B2A. [Also in Division F2] A vibratory ball &c. mill which is driven by out-of-balance or eccentric masses comprises a grinding drum which is subdivided by horizontal partitions. As shown in Fig. 1, a drum 13 which is driven by out-of-balance masses 16, 17 is supported on a frame 11 by means of springs 12 and is subdivided by means of perforated partitions 22 into chambers a to d containing grinding bodies of different sizes. Material to be ground is introduced at 20 and the ground material is discharged at 21. The radius of the centre of gravity of the mass 16 is greater than that of the mass 17 so that the axis of the drum describes a rotary movement along the surface of a cone. Air is injected through inlets 23 to 26 at such a speed as is required to discharge material ground to the desired fineness through outlets 27 to 30. In a modification, Fig. 3, for wet grinding, section A shows the drum subdivided into chambers a to d, water being supplied at inlet 32 or 33 and discharged at 33 or 32 while section B shows the drum subdivided into chambers a to c by partitions which are unperforated, water being supplied to the individual chambers at inlets 34, 36 and 38 and being discharged at outlets 35, 37 and 39. There may be no grinding bodies in chamber c. In a further modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), there are six individual drums arranged in a circle and each of which comprises chambers as above described.
