A two-colour rotary printing press through which sheets move in a forward direction, i.e. to the left in Fig. 1, comprises a first tympan cylinder 12a, a first plate cylinder 13a, a first inking cylinder 14a having a resilient surface and co-operating with a flexible relief printing plate 19 on the cylinder 13a, rollers 16 for feeding sheets along a table 17 to the nip between the cylinders 12a and 13a, a transfer cylinder 21 situated below the cylinder 12a, a second tympan cylinder 23a with its axis below and forward of that of the cylinder 21, a second plate cylinder 24a with its axis approximately in the same horizontal plane as that of cylinder 23a, a second inking cylinder 35a having a resilient surface engaging a flexible relief printing plate 25 on the cylinder 24a and having its axis below that of the cylinder 24a, a horizontal platform 31 adjacent and forward of the cylinder 35a to provide access to the plate and tympan cylinders for installation of plates and flexible tympan sheets thereto respectively, and a pair of delivery chains 28 having grippers 26 for removing the printed sheets from the cylinder 23a and transferring them below and forward of the platform 31. The cylinder 14a is inked by a plurality of rollers 33 located thereabove and the cylinder 35a is inked by rollers 34 which are removable as a unit from the vicinity of the said cylinder. The cylinder 21 is located rearwardly with respect to the cylinder 23a and the cylinders 12a, 21 and 23a are provided with grippers. The apparatus may be converted from that shown in Fig. 1, using the direct letterpress process to that of Fig. 2 (not shown), which uses a lithographic offset process and employs dampeners.
