966,330. Orientating eggs. BRECKNELL, DOLMAN & ROGERS Ltd. April 12, 1962 [Aug. 23, 1961], No. 30393/61. Heading B8A. Eggs 15 incorrectly orientated between pairs of parallel rollers 14, on which they are supported, the rollers 14 forming an endless conveyer 1, drift to the " wrong " side of the conveyer, all the rollers being rotated in the same sense, and are elevated clear of the rollers to be turned over endwise. Sprockets 20 on spindles 11 carrying the rollers 14 engage a fixed rack 21 over sections B, C, D so as to rotate the rollers 14, thus causing eggs 15 randomly placed on the rollers in a section A to follow their small ends to the sides of the conveyer where the correctly orientated eggs are retained by flanges 18 and the incorrectly orientated eggs retained by collars 19. In section C of the conveyer each pair of adjacent yoke cross-bars 12B rises simultaneously under the action of a cam 23 and a pin-and-slot mechanism 16 to lift each egg clear of the rotating action of the rollers 14 so that the forward motion of an incorrectly orientated egg against a fixed rail 22 reverses the direction of the egg. Correctly orientated eggs pass clear of the rail 22.
