Abstract
966,097. Refrigerating; cooling liquids in bulk. SUNSET EQUIPMENT CO. Nov. 16, 1960, No. 39431/60. Headings F4H and F4S. [Also in Divisions E1, E2 and F2] A bulk liquid storage tank comprises spaced inner and outer U-shaped metal shells 10 and 12, the upper edges of which have return bend portions 78 and 87 respectively (Fig. 9), shell 10 also having an approximately horizontal portion 82 which is bent downwardly and fixed to the outer shell at 79. The inner shell is supported by a frame, Fig. 5, comprising channelshaped saddle and longitudinal members 16 and 18 respectively and adjustable legs 14 which project through the outer shell. A central transverse bridge member 50, Fig. 1, is secured across the tank and supports a motor 52 which drives an agitator blade 54. On either side of the bridge 50 are provided hinged covers 70, 72 having downwardly turned edges which fit over the return bend portion 78 of shell 10 when in their closed positions, means being provided for retaining the covers in the open position when necessary. Indented plates are welded to the outside of the lower part of the inner shell to define therewith a plurality of refrigerant passages, each having its own supply and return line for refrigerant (Fig. 4, not shown). In a modification (Fig. 20, not shown), refrigerant is supplied to each end of each refrigerant passage and is withdrawn from a central point thereof, a common return line being provided. The operation of the refrigerating system is controlled by a thermostat 126 (Fig. 16), and the refrigeration cycle may be manually initiated by operation of a switch 118 to energize a relay 120 which in turn energizes a heating coil 122 attached to the capillary 124 of the thermostat. Thermal insulation 45 is interposed between the shells 10 and 12 and shell 10 may be provided with a reinforcing member shaped to fit within the return bend portion 78 (Fig. 6, not shown).
