Abstract

965,994. Silos. BUTLER MANUFACTURING CO. Nov. 20, 1962, No. 43869/62. Heading E1A. An air tight silo for storing corn, silage or sugar is provided with a tortuous communication passage between the inside of the tank and the atmosphere to ensure that no gases escape from the tank and no air enters same, the arrangement accommodating pressure differentials on either side of the tank. In the embodiment shown the tank is provided with a hollow top 32, 36, 37, 42 defining an annular space subdivided by radial baffles, see Figs 2 - - 7 (not shown) suitably apertured to define the tortuous passage referred to. The tank is built of metal sections lined with an epoxy resin and is mounted on a concrete base 13 having a withdrawal passage 17. The tank is provided with twin withdrawal augers 18 and a sweeper auger 27 for the bottom of the tank. In a modification, the top of the tank communicates with a labyrinth passage in the foundation thereof see Fig. 12 (not shown). A two way pressure relief valve may be incorporated in the vent system, see Figs. 1b, 1c (not shown). U.S.A Specification 1,911,337 is referred to.
