A hand truck has two generally coplanar side frames having a horizontal part 28, a U-shaped part 38 supporting a wheel axle, a part 42 carrying basket-attachment plates 68 and a downwardly extending part 46, 50. The forward ends of these side frames are inturned at 30, 32 to form an adjustable telescopic joint with the member 58 so that various width carts may be made by altering the lengths of the transverse members 58, 60, 52 and 54. The wire basket 10 has two stout members 16, 18 by which the basket is attached to the plates 68 by inserting the members 16, 18 into slots cut in the plate and then bending up tags to retain them in position.
