965,341. Photographic processing apparatus. K. GALL. Aug. 20, 1962 [Aug. 23, 1961], No. 31927/62. Heading G2A. An apparatus for processing exposed film comprises a light-tight tank, a continuously rotatable drum which dips below the liquid level in the tank and to which the film can be attached and a separate storage container for each processing liquid, each container having a separate pump, a separate supply pipe, a separate outlet valve and a separate return pipe, the pumps being automatically controlled by a programme switching mechanism so that the various liquids are admitted and removed in the correct sequence. As shown, the tank 2 has a cover 1 and a drum 5 mounted therein and rotatable about its horizontal longitudinal axis 6. The film 12 is clamped to the outer surface of the drum by means of strip 11. The processing operations are controlled by programme switching mechanism 45 (Fig. 2) which by inserting a programmed card 44 causes electric motor 7 to be switched on thus rotating the drum 5. Pump 21 is then energized causing the processing liquid in container 14 to be pumped into the tank 2 via pipe 17. When the first processing is completed the gate-valve 27 is energized and the processing liquid is returned to container 14. If a washing stage is required, electromagnetic valve 34 is opened allowing water to flow into the tank via pipe 19 until the water has reached the height of overflow pipe 35. When the washing stage is completed, gate valve 36 is opened and water is removed via pipe 37. Subsequent processing operations may be carried out by pumping the processing liquids in containers 15 and 16 by pumps 22 and 23 respectively, the discharge of these liquids being controlled by valves 28 and 29 respectively with any intermediate washing stages being performed if necessary. The temperature of containers is controlled by bath 13 containing water circulated by pump 41 via pipes 39 and 38. The bath may be heated by elements 42 or cooled by the addition of cold water.
