Abstract

The invention comprises substituted benzamides of the formula: <FORM:0964232/C1/1> (wherein R is allyl or methallyl and R1 and R2 are hydrogen atoms or alkyl or cycloalkyl radicals, or NR1R2 is a saturated heterocyclic radical which may contain a further hetero atom) and their preparation by reacting 3,4,5-trimethoxy-benzamide with concentrated sulphuric acid to give 3,5-dimethoxy-4-hydroxy-benzamide and then reacting this with allyl or methallyl bromide. Examples are given.ALSO:Pharmaceutical compositions comprise a substituted benzamide of the formula <FORM:0964232/A5-A6/1> (wherein R is allyl or methallyl and R1 and R2 are hydrogen atoms or alkyl or cycloalkyl radicals, or NR1R2 is a saturated heterocyclic radical which may contain a further hetero atom) and carriers therefor. They may also contain barbiturates, which are potentiated by the benzamides. The latter are also sedatives, hypnotics, antipyretics, relaxants, analgesics and diuretics. Tablets, pills and suppositories are mentioned.
