Abstract
A process for the aromatization of paraffinic hydrocarbons comprises contacting hydrocarbon feedstock with a catalyst at temperatures of 600-1400 DEG F., pressures from 0.1-50 atmospheres and in admixture with from 0.1-50 M.S.C.F. of hydrogen per barrel of liquid hydrocarbon feed at a W.H.S.V. of 0.01-100, the catalyst having been prepared by impregnating the alumina lattice with casium at 1200-2000 DEG F. and subsequently admixing with chromia. Examples describe the catalytic conversion of n-hexane to benzene and also C7 and C8 hydrocarbon fractions.ALSO:A process for the production of a catalyst comprises mixing a compound of Cs, which is readily decomposed by heat to the corresponding oxide or metal, with alumina in the proportion of less than 10 atoms of Cs per 100 mols of Al2O3, heating the resultant mixture to temperatures of from 1200-2000 DEG F. for a period sufficient to cause Cs atoms to diffuse into the Al2O3 lattice, and compositing the Al2O3/Cs+ mixture with Cr2O3. Suitable Cs compounds are hydroxide, nitrate, carbonate and acetate. Loss of catalyst activity due to carbon deposits may be restored by igniting in air followed by treatment with pure oxygen, Examples are given which compare catalysts as above with K2O-containing catalysts.
