A double wrapper is applied to an article such as a bar of chocolate by first pushing the article 1 against the inner wrapper 2 and between folders 4 so as to cover three sides, leaving a portion extending beyond the upper side, laying the outer wrapper 5 on the article and passing the assembly through folding means 6 in a direction at right angles to that taken through the folders 4. Reciprocating members 8, 9 grip the assembly during the second folding operation in which projections 7 pleat the wrapper comers and folders 10, 11 move in sequence to fold the wrappers on three sides on to the bottom of the article. A pusher 12 ejects the package and completes the wrapping. In a modified arrangement, the inner wrapper may project a short distance beyond the base of the article in the same direction as the upper projection and may be folded up to stiffen the lower portion of the wrapper during the second folding operations. Projections at the remaining sides of the base may also be folded up for this purpose (Figs. 5-7, not shown).
