963,047. Washing-machines. CONSTRUCTAWERKE G.m.b.H. July 12,1962 [July 20, 1961], No.26876/62. Heading D1A. In a mobile washing and spin-drying machine having castors 11 and other supports 12, either castors or supports being extendable or retractable by hydraulic means, a safety device (Fig. 2) prevents commencement of the spin-drying operation so long as the machine is supported by the castors. As shown, a support 12, which is extended, together with supports 12<SP>1</SP>, 12<SP>11</SP>, when a pressure medium is supplied through a valve 16, is fitted with a feeler 19<SP>1</SP> which closes contact 21 when the support touches floor 20. This closure causes contact 24 to close, in the current circuit 25 of a relay 26, the relay 26 being able to initiate the spin-drying operation on closure of a further switch (not shown). The supports 12 may be extended by means of electro-magnetic valve 16, either when the drum attains a certain sub-critical speed, or prior to starting the washing operation by a programme regulator 17 which retracts the supports again after the washing cycle is complete. The drum system 1 is oscillatably mounted by springs 8. In a machine having retractable castors the feeler 19<SP>1</SP> would be operated by one of these on retraction.
