Abstract

962,848. Extruding. SCHLOEMANN A.G. July 9, 1962 [Aug. 5, 1961], No. 26192/62. Heading B3P. An extrusion press has an axially movable billet container 7, and a die holder 13 mounted for transverse sliding movement on a frame 24 which is rotatable about an axis 27 parallel with the extrusion axis. Two die holders 13 each housing a die 9 and thrust collars 10, 11 are mounted on opposite sides of the axis 27. Each holder is secured to a rack 14 meshing with a pinion 15 which is rotatable through further rack-and-pinion gearing by a fluid pressure motor 22 for sliding simultaneously both die holders radially outwardly or inwardly. In its outward position the operative die 9 is located by an adjustable stop 32 and held between fixed abutments 34, 34a. After extrusion, the product can be sheared off by a vertically acting blade 42 or it can be sheared between the thrust collar 11 and a pressure piece 12 upon inward movement of the die holder which is assisted by a piston 44, Fig. 3 (not shown) acting directly upon the collar 11. Alternatively upon withdrawal of stop 32, the die may be released for axial movement with the container whereby the product may be severed behind the die by a saw. The frame 14 is rotated through rack- and-pinion gearing by a fluid pressure motor 31. Specification 946,756 is referred to.
