Abstract

962,835. Safety buckles. W. J. BEER, and P. SMOLKA, [trading as WIENER METALLWAREN-UND SCHNALLENFABRIK SCHAR-SMOLKA]. Feb. 26, 1962 [Sept. 27, 1961], No. 7409/62. Headings E2A and E2B. A fastening device comprises a tongue 1 and buckle 15, wherein the tongue is formed so that it can only be fully inserted into the buckle one way up, the buckle having a bar adapted to lock the tongue and buckle together and a spring 2 adapted to assist in withdrawal of the tongue 1 when the device is unlocked. The locking bar 3 is biased by one arm of the spring 2 against the tongue where its projections engage with slots 17 of the tongue 1. The tongue is provided with a further off-centre slot 4 which engages over a hook 5 of the buckle when in the fully inserted position. To release the device a pivoted lever 6, which co-operates with the locking bar 3 through lugs 7 and flanges- 8, is raised to lift the bar 3 to free the tongue. The vertical arm of the spring 2 is biased against the tongue and assists with its withdrawal.
