Abstract
A binary cement contains 10-90% of each of calcium aluminate cement and calcium sulphate hemihydrate. An aggregate, e.g. fired alumino-silicates, fused alumina, silica and silicon carbide can be included. Gelatine or fish glue may be added as retarder. Moulds are made in distinct layers of different compositions using the binary cement; some layers may be reinforced with metal, and some may be porous, e.g. contain expanded vermiculite.
