Abstract

962,448. Cartons. E. J. H. JACOBS. June 2, 1961, No. 20075/61. Heading B8P. In a tubular carton made from the blank of Fig. 1, in which the triangular panels P, Q are bent in to form the ends of the carton, the shortest distance between the crease 15 and the edge 11b is greater than one-half of the distance between adjacent creases 13 so that when the ends are closed the triangles Q slope inwardly. The triangles P fold together and form upstanding supports 21 for the article contained. The sides 12a, 12b of the blank are taped together to form the tube and the points C . . . F pressed inwards until a point is reached when the apices of each of the triangles Q meet with one another and the sides of adjacent triangles Q bear against one another. The distances between the edge 11a and crease line 14 and between edge 11b and crease line 15 are made greater than one-half of the width of the side wall so that when pressure is exerted inwardly on the apices 19 of triangles Q, the triangular end pieces Q will spring inwardly and become snaplocked in position. When the ends are snap-locked in position each pair of adjacent triangles P form upstanding supports 21 inside the container on which the packaged article rests. To fill the carton one end is closed, the contents introduced through the other end and that end then closed. The carton in other embodiments (not shown) may have three or more sides and may be made of cardboard or faced corrugated paper.
