Abstract
961,876. Screw-sockets. S. TIPPETT. Feb. 26, 1963 [Dec. 15, 1961], No. 45054/61. Heading F2H. An externally threaded resilient screw-socket 1 of rubber, nylon, polyvinylchloride, polyethylene or butadiene-styrene copolymer and which may be placed within the mould when a concrete railway sleeper is cast, in order to be cast in the concrete, has a reinforcing ring 7, e.g. of steel, in or on a head 8. The socket material may be cellular or contain granulated cork or rubber, asbestos or cotton fibres. The head 8 tapers towards the socket body, unless the ring 7 is external, Fig. 2 (not shown), i.e. press-fitted or mould-bonded on to the head, and there may be a screw thread in the socket as shown. There may also be a subsidiary internal thread as described in Specification 961,877. The internal and external threads may extend into and on to the head 8 which may have a concave surface at the top or bottom or both, to avoid bulging on tightening. The ring 7 may be frusto-conical or be polygonal in section or be a helix of wire. The socket apart from the ring 7 and head 8 may be the same as that described in Specification 865,120.
