A card flat is formed with a recess B in which the driving chain C is lodged and is provided with a pin D that extends across the recess. At its outer end the pin D carries a roller E for engagement with a flat driving sprocket. That part of the pin which carries the roller may be of greater diameter than the rest of the pin. The head A of the flat may be so shaped that the points of the card clothing are substantially level with the sliding surface of the member F. In another embodiment, the sliding surface of the member F is formed with a shallow slot so that the lower part of the chain may pass through it.
