Abstract

961, 616. Leak detection. GESELLSCHAFT FURLINDE'S EISMASCHINEN A.G. Feb. 21, 1962 [Feb. 23, 1961], No. 6668/62. Heading G1S. A tracer-gas mixture for leakage detection is prepared automatically in a mixing container 7 (ready for a subsequent test), whenever a testobject (evacuated) is connected to the discharge line 13a, by the pressure-drop in line 13a beyond the (closed) valve 14 first of all causing the pressure-gauge pointer 17 to make contact with a stop 18 and, through relays, to open valve 14 simultaneously closing a valve 6; then, as the pressure rises in line 13a, pointer 17 contacts stop 19 to reverse the valves and thus allow inert gas (nitrogen) from cylinders 1 to enter the container 7. The latter is supplied from a reservoir 8, using the manual valve 11, with a liquid having a low boiling point such as " Freon" (Trade Mark) 12 or 22, and the vapour (used as the tracer gas in conjunction with a halogen detector) mixes thoroughly with the rapidly-entering nitrogen. A pressure equilibrium is set up and a constant pressure constant-composition mixture is thus ready for the next test. When the test-object is disconnected from line 13a, the latter is closed by a spring-loaded valve. In a modified embodiment the lines 4 and 13 meet outside the mixing vesselin a T-junction, but the operational sequence is essentially unaltered. The indicator liquid in vessel 7 requires replenishment about every two months, an indicator tube 12 being provided for monitoring the level. The valve 11 may be operated automatically in response to a signal from level-monitoring means.
