[Also in Division B5] A portable sawing machine comprises a rotatable circular saw 1 with a fixed guard 4 and a movable guard 5, each guard having a generally semi-annular shape and the movable guard being arranged for movement between the saw and the fixed guard as work is fed into the saw, a sawdust discharge opening 9 being formed in the fixed guard for discharge of the sawdust lateral to the plane of the saw, and at least one vent opening 11 being formed in the movable guard, the arrangement being that only the fan effect of the saw blade is effective to move sawdust to the discharge opening along the space 13 between the fixed and movable guards. The discharge opening 9 is formed in the rear part of the fixed guard 4 which is disposed above a guide shoe 6 having an opening 7 through which extends the blade 1. The movable guard 5 extends through the opening and moves into the space between the fixed guard and blade as a workpiece engages the blade. A plurality of the vent openings 11 or a continuous slot enable sawdust thrown centrifugally outwards by the fan effect of the blade to pass to the space 13 from which it is deflected by an inclined or curved surface 10, through the opening 9.
