A device for use in a packed gas/liquid contact tower comprises a gutter 1, shaped to correspond to the cross-section of the tower, a funnel 4 collecting liquid flowing down the walls of the tower and discharging it into the gutter, and a centrally disposed pipe 3 connected to the gutter by conduits 2 whereby liquid from the gutter is returned to the centre of the tower. The device may be situated immediately below a grating 6 or the packing material 6 or can be bedded down into the packing material.
