961,397. Regenerated cellulose filaments. COURTAULDS Ltd. Oct. 27, 1960 [Oct. 28, 1959], No. 36517/59. Heading B5B. Continuous filament viscose rayon having a total denier up to 350 is made by extruding viscose of cellulose content 4-6%, and caustic soda content approximately, half that of the cellulose, the cellulose having an average degree of polymerization of at least 300 and the viscose having a salt point of at least 10 and a ball fall viscosity from 50-150 secs., into a coagulating bath containing from 2.0-3.5% sulphuric acid, less than 15% Na 2 SO 4 and not more than 0.02% ZnSO 4 as an impurity, maintaining the bath temperature from 20-30‹ C., the maximum immersion period of the filaments in the coagulating bath being determined from the formula t=0.35#d-0.18, where t is the maximum immersion period in seconds and d is the individual filament denier of the finished yarn, stretching the filaments by at least 60% of their original length on emerging from the bath and collecting the filaments at a speed of at least 60 m./min. Preferably, the ball fall viscosity of the viscose is from 80-120 sees. and the yarn is collected as a cake in a centrifugal box. Specification 915,803 is referred to.
