Abstract
961,175. Fuel fired radiant immersion heaters. H. J. BAGGELER. Sept. 22, 1960 [Sept. 25, 1959], No. 32666/60. Heading F4B. [Also in Division H5] An inverted bell-shaped immersion heater 2 of graphite is supported on a metal sheathed refractory head 3 by a bayonet fastening. The head 3, which carries a recuperator 10 for heating air for combustion and a burner nozzle 4, is supported by an arm 6 pivoted about a horizontal axis 7 outside the furnace so that the immersion element can be lifted out of the metal bath of a galvanizing tank 1. Several immersion elements may be mounted on a single head, and the head may carry a motordriven stirrer, Fig. 4 (not shown). The immersion element may be heated by electricity, and the head may form a seal for a metal melting pot for use in a metal casting process.
