Abstract
960,275. Dynamo-electric machines having planar air-gaps. SOC. D'ELECTRONIQUE ET D'AUTOMATISME. March 3, 1961, No. 7853/61. Heading H2A. In a flat annular air-gap type of electrical rotating machine in which the rotor includes an annular insulating carrier member 1 to whose faces are secured flat winding conductors 2 distributed in two sets of half-turns between whose ends are made face-to-face connections to form the complete pattern of the winding, the rotor is secured to the inside of a rotatable hollow cylindrical member mounted on bearings 10, 11 on sheaths 8, 9 supporting a stationary field structure having the air-gap within which the rotor is positioned, and the sheaths are fixed to a supporting stationary shaft 12 coaxial with the machine axis. The machine may be a motor and the hollow cylindrical member a wheel, pulley, or drum, comprising either a rim 4 secured to two end plates 6, 7 or bars spaced apart by two end discs. Rotor distortion is prevented by applying pressure to its faces by ball or graphite guiding supports 18, 19 and brushes 20. The field structure comprises U-shaped permanent magnets 13 which to facilitate assembly are each radially divided into two portions. The conductors 2 may be printed and either wave or lap wound.
