Abstract

A magnesium based alloy for use in the wrought condition (i.e rolled, extruded or forged) comprises: .Al.0.5-1.5% preferably 0.7-1.2% .Mu.0.5-1.5% preferably 0.6-0.9% .Be.0-0.02% .Zn.0-0.5% .Rare earth metals.0-0.5% the balance apart from impurities being magnesium. The use of the alloy for nuclear fuel can fittings is disclosed.
