A machine for wrapping or labelling articles, e.g. packets of cigarettes, comprises means for feeding the articles in constant succession along a feed path to which at least two devices supply wrapping sheets, labels, or the like, each device being adapted to draw the sheets or the like from a separate supply at a speed which is a sub-multiple of the speed of the article feeding means, and means being provided for subsequently accelerating the sheets or the like to a predetermined speed equal to or bearing a predetermined relation to that of the article feeding means. In the embodiment shown in' Fig. 1, sheets 1, 2 from magazines 3, 4 are supplied to a common guide path 60 by suction rollers 7, 8 and grippers 11, the sheets passing between successive pairs of rollers as shown at a speed which is a submultiple of that of the articles 61 to be wrapped, and being accelerated between the roller 32, movable about a pivot point 35, and the roller 31, which is driven at a non-uniform peripheral speed by an eccentric wheel 38 engaging an eccentric driving wheel 37. Each individual sheet 59 is guided to a fixed abutment 58, and is released by the rollers 48, 49 when the pushing dog 55 pushes the article 61 beyond the position shown in the Figure. The plates 54, 56 then fold the sheet round the article in a U-shape. The embodiment of Fig. 2 shows two devices for alternately supplying sheets direct to the feed path from the magazines 3, 4 to the abutments 58, the sheets being accelerated in this case between a pivotal roller 63 and a roller 66 driven at a non-uniform peripheral speed by eccentric discs 37, 38. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 5, labels 77, 78 are transferred simultaneously by suction rollers 7, 8 from magazines 79, 80 to cylinders 9, 10 connected together by toothed wheels 81 and 82 for synchronous rotation, the roller 10 being driven by an eccentric wheel 83 which engages an eccentric wheel 84, so that the labels are accelerated to a speed equal to that of the articles 76 after they have been passed under gumming rollers 85 which are supplied with gum from gum containers 86.
