Abstract
959,624. Bottling pasteurised carbonated liquids. PAASCH & SILKEBORG MASKINFABRIKKER A.S. Aug. 13, 1962, No. 30912/62. Heading A2D. [Also in Division G3] An apparatus in which carbonated beer and similar liquids are pumped for pasteurisation from a tank 1 through a heat exchanger 4 provided with a cooling section in which the beer &c. may be cooled after pasteurisation to a temperature of about 12 to 15‹C., thence through piping 7 to a bottling machine 8, there is inserted in the piping a throttle valve 6 controlled by an automatic control mechanism which is acted upon by the pressure in the bottling machine such that the flow area of the valve is reduced or increased as the pressure in the bottling machine increases or decreases, respectively. The control mechanism consists of a compressed air supply line 17 operated at ten atmospheres pressure, communicating through lines 22, 25, with the pressure chamber in the throttle valve formed as a diaphragm or similar valve, and through line 26 with an air escape valve 27 controlled by bellows 29 through an arm 30; the beer &c. transmits the pressure in the bottling machine to air vessel 9 which in turn communicates with the pressure chamber 28 of the bellows. Influx of beer &c. up through the air vessel 9 is checked by the admission of compressed air via a magnetically operated valve 15, throttling valve 21 and line 19, in response to a relay 12 actuated by the downwardly projecting electrode 10. The apparatus includes a back pressure valve 32 adjusted to a pressure of about one-half atmosphere above the bottling pressure so that the pumping pressure which may be ten times atmospheric, is not transmitted to the bottling machine.
