Abstract

A ferromagnetic material includes a b -eucryptite phase and a ferrite phase. A glass batch to be melted and devitrified is so chosen as to include b -eucryptite constituents (SiO2 56.12; Al2O3 40.41 and Li2O 3.47 in weights per cent) and such that ferrite nuclei are formed during the meeting, or the batch may have added ferrite powder. Glass and ferrite powders may be mixed, fused and the resulting glass subsequently devitrified. Small additions of Li2CO3; Na2O; K2O, B2O3 may be mixed with the glass and small quantities of T1O2 to assist crystallization of the glass.
