958,749. Workholders; drill-jigs. E. M. TOROSSIAN. March 23, 1962 [April 10, 1961], No. 11238/62. Headings B3B and B3C. A workholder comprises a pair of jaws 15, 16 movable by levers 17 which are mounted on pivots 20A in the workholder-frame 30 and operated by an axially-movable member 11. The member 11 may be operated to close the jaws, against the influence of return springs, Fig. 3 (not shown), by an hydraulic cylinder, or, as shown, it may be screw-threaded to engage a nut 24 having grooves 23 to receive rollers 22 on the inner, bifurcated ends 18 of the bell-crank levers 17. Links 19 connect the outer, bifurcated ends 21 of the levers 17 to the jaws, which slide in passages 45, in the hermetically sealed halves 31 of the casing 30. The jaws have interengaging elements 35. Jigs.-To position the workholder on the table 37 of a milling-machine, a tube, Fig. 9 (not shown), is gripped between the jaws 15, 16 and the workholder is moved to align the tube with a plug located in the drill-socket. The workholder is then clamped to the table by electromagnets 33, 34, energized by a lever 48. Short workpieces may rest on a stand 36, and the drill may be guided by a bush 51 mounted in a bridge 50 which pivots on a member 54 bolted to the casing.
