The steering column and brake, clutch and accelerator pedals 43, 44 and 51 of a motor vehicle are movable conjointly along the axis of the steering column. The clutch and brake pedals are also adjustable angularly of the steering column which is itself angularly adjustable of the chassis 16. To allow axial steering wheel movement the steering shaft 2 has a splined sleeve 5 pinned to its lower end which engages the splined lower shaft 3 and the steering column cover tube 7 comprises an upper part 7a slidable in a lower part 8 which is secured to steerbox 9. A spring-loaded pawl, pivoted on part 7a and releasable by lever 13 engages one of a series of indentations 11 in part 8 to hold the parts against axial movement. The column is also adjustable angularly about plummer block 15, being held in position by adjustable stay 17 which comprises part 19 pivoted to the column at 20 and part 22 secured to dashboard 18, the parts 19, 22 having interengaging wavy portions which are locked in position by releasable clamp 26. The brake and clutch pedal cylinders 33 are secured by bolts 36, 40 to plates 31 bolted to lugs 30 on column part 7a. The lower bolt 40 may pass through either hole 41 (Fig. 1) or hole 35 (Fig. 2) to adjust the pedal angle. Each pedal plunger 42 is surrounded at the top by a helical return spring 44A and may displace hydraulic fluid from cylinder 33 (Fig. 1) or Fig. 6) and be secured to the casing 48 of a Bowden cable, the wire 46 of which is secured to cylinder 33. A flexible bellows 52 is attached to the vehicle floor and the pedal and steering column unit to act as a seal.
