[Also in Division B3] A device for wrapping wire around electric terminals includes a rotary shaft to which a wrapping bit is attached and rotary locking mechanism for the rotary shaft which locking mechanism comprises a first element fixed on and rotating with the shaft, a second non- rotatable element, means for holding the elements apart, the opposed faces of the elements having complementary contours including interlocking parts having locking surfaces which stop rotary motion in a fixed rotary position, and means for slidably moving said second element into or out of engagement with said first element. In operation depression of a trigger 19 causes compressed air to be delivered to a turbo-motor M and speed-reducing gear R rotating a shaft 8 to which a wire wrapping element 16 is attached. Exhaust air passes from the motor M through a large annular channel 21 between an element 1 secured to the shaft 8 and a casing 7, through a small annular channel 22 between a non-rotary element 2 and the casing 7 and out through a port 23. The arrangement thus allows compressed air to slide the element 2, against a spring 15, away from the element 1 to disengage abutting stops on the opposing faces of the elements 1, 2 and allow the shaft 8 to be rotated. The faces of the elements 1, 2 are formed with complementary interlocking sections A, B<SP>1</SP> of such angular extent that interlocking takes place in one angular position only. The sections B<SP>1</SP> are each divided into two parts C, D of different levels to aid the engagement of the elements 1 and 2. On release of the trigger 19 the spring 15 slides the element 2 back into engagement with the element 1 to stop rotation of the shaft 8, the shock of the stopping being absorbed by some rotation of the stator of the motor M which is freely mounted in the grip P and held only by a spring 5.
