Abstract
957,876. Pipe couplings. AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO. Ltd. March 27, 1963 [March 27, 1962], No. 11726/62. Heading F2G. In a pipe &c. coupling of the kind comprising two elements 10, 11 connected by a rotatable screw-threaded sleeve or nut 12 carried by the element 11 co-operating with a screw-thread 15 on the element 10, locking means for holding the element 10 and sleeve 12 against relative rotation when the elements are connected together comprise a set of castellations on one of the parts and a corresponding set of castellations on a ring 35 axially slidable but non- rotatable relative to the element 10 and sleeve 12, the ring being urged axially by a spring 41 so that the castellations thereon are brought into interengagement with the castellations on the element 10 when the latter and the sleeve are screwed together. As shown, the castellations are formed on the end face of the element 10 and the confronting face of the ring 35 the latter being coupled by pins 37 extending through slots 38 in the sleeve to a ring 39; pulling back of the ring 39 disengages the castellations so that the coupling elements can be separated. The element 11 includes radial ports 32 behind a fixed valve head 31 and a spring-urged slidable sleeve 33 having a spigot 43 which enters the bore 18 of the element 10 and into sealing relation with a ring 23 having two axially spaced lips 44 and before the valve 24 of the element 10 is displaced by the head 31.
