Abstract
956,331. Aerial arrays. SIEMENS & HALSKE A.G. June 26, 1962 [June 28, 1961], No. 24450/62. Heading H4A. In an aerial assembly comprising a plurality of radiating elements (or a plurality of arrays of elements) equally spaced along a mast (Fig. 1) and coupled together to form two or more groups each of which may be switched in or out of circuit independently of the others, the adjacent elements or adjacent arrays of any one group have a corresponding element or array of the or each of the other groups situated between them. Thus when one group has to be switched off, for example for maintenance, the radiation pattern generated by the remaining group or groups is not substantially changed (Fig. 5, not shown). The radiating elements are preferably dipoles. As shown, the arrays of dipoles 2-9 are arranged in two groups, 2, 4, 6, 8 and 3, 5, 7, 9, each comprising four sets of dipoles situated around the mast, with the elements of each group, for example 2, 4, 6, 8, connected in parallel by feeders 10, 11 (Fig. 3), which in turn are connected to a common distributer 15 through feeders 12 and 13. The distributers 15 and 20 are connected to a central switch 23 through leads 21 and 22 which are made of unequal length which is said to prevent points of zero intensity in the radiation pattern.
