Abstract

956,105. Lens fronts for indicator lamps. SQUARE D CO. Sept. 24, 1962 [Oct. 20, 1961], No. 36482/62. Heading F4R. A window opening in a wall of rigid material, e.g. of an enclosure for electrical instruments, is closed by a light passing cap connected thereto and having snap fastening means co-operating with means on a lens projecting partially through the opening and into the cap, whereby the lens is supported in operating position in the cap. In the form shown, the cap 1 consists of a curved shell of transparent or translucent synthetic plastics material, e.g. acrylic resin having flat parallel sides 4 and flattened ends 7 provided with lugs 8 forming shoulders 9 which engage the inner edges of an opening in the wall C. The cap is resilient and is inserted into the opening from in front, being then held in place by the shoulders 9 which engage the rear of the wall C and by the rear edges of the flat sides 4 which engage the front of the wall. The inner surface of the cap is formed with diffusing protuberances 6. The lens 10 is in the form of a flat plate having a curved front face 12 conforming to the front face of the cap and shaped side walls for deflecting the light from a source N, e.g. a neon lamp, housed in a cutout at the rear of the lens having parallel sides and a front convex towards the lamp. The flat surfaces of the lens are shouldered to engage the rear of the wall C. Slots 16 are provided in these surfaces and co-operate with ribs on the inner surface of the parallel sides of the cap to provide snap engagement therewith, the surface of the lens being cut away in wedge form at the front to facilitate insertion of the lens into the cap.
