Abstract

[Also in Division E2] A supporting clamp A securable on an element in the form of a rod E or the like against axial displacement thereon comprises a unit formed from a single piece of metal having resilient characteristics bent to form a body B and a pair of arms C, D projecting therefrom in substantially the same direction and in spaced apart relation, each arm having an orifice 10 or 11 therein substantially registering with one another for passage therethrough of the element, each of the arms having a spring locking lug 12 or 13 including a free biting edge 14, the latter forming one edge of the orifice, the lugs being biased to engage the element in biting pressure engagement against axial displacement of the unit, at least one of the arms forming supporting means for an object to be attached thereto, the arms being compressible towards one another to release the lugs from locking engagement with the element. As shown, the free ends of the arms are formed with portions 19 and 20 respectively for securing a channel section F. In a modification Fig. 1 (not shown) the lower arm D is provided with a terminal portion similar to portion 20. In a further modification the body B is bowed inwardly. In an arrangement according to Figs. 9-12 (not shown) the rod or like element is hooked at one end for engagement with a support member and the lower arm of the clamp is longer than the upper arm and is provided on its underside with a clip formation for releasably engaging and supporting T- section and like bars. The invention is applicable to the suspensions of sub-ceiling structures.
