Abstract
954,919. Retractive switches. NATIONAL REJECTORS Inc. July 10, 1961, No. 24940/61. Heading H2B. A small snap-action switch comprises a two-part casing 20, 22 which secures copper terminal lugs 84, 94 and 104 in position as shown. The lugs 84 and 94 carry fixed contacts 90 and 100 respectively and the lug 104 has a leaf-spring 112 riveted thereto so as normally to urge a moving contact 116 on its free end into engagement with contact 100. A permanent magnet 120 is a tight fit in a yieldable plastic sleeve 118 fitted in an aperture in leaf-spring 112 and co-operates with armatures 122, 124, carried in the easing. These armatures may be the arms of a U-shaped member (Fig. 11, not shown). The casing also journals an actuating shaft 126 having an eccentric crank-like portion 130 adjacent the spring 112 such that rotation of the shaft 126 causes the part 130 firstly to cam the spring 112 into the shape shown in Fig. 9, wherein it pivots about magnet 120 and polepiece 122 to increase the contact pressure, and then to snap into the position shown dotted, wherein contact 116 engages the other fixed contact 90. On release of shaft 126 the spring 112 re-asserts its full-line position with a similar pivoting action of magnet 120 on armature 124, followed by a snap-over. This action also produces a wiping and cleaning movement between the contacts. The shaft 126 is operated by an arm 154 resiliently maintained between abutments 148, 150 and 152 on a coupling member 140 attached to shaft 126. The member 140 also has a projection 144 co-operating with stops 52 and 54 formed on the casing 22. The casing has holes 26, 28 for mounting purposes, and the two parts 20 and 22 are held together by a split tube 162 compressed inside a hole 30 therethrough. In a modification (Fig. 10, not shown), the cam-shaft assembly is replaced by a pushbutton acting directly on the leaf spring.
