June 21, 1960 [June 22, 1959], No. 21378/59. Heading A4T. [Also in Division B8] Six food tray containers 23, for delivery by lift cage 10a to six respective floors of a building, are supported on shafts 21 located at equal intervals on endless conveyer chains 14 driven by a reversible electric motor 20 while the cage 10a is in motion to bring the required container 34 to its unloading position in the cage. When the cage is stopped, the container 34 (Fig. 4) is unloaded by means of two arms 37 each keyed on a stub axle 36 journalled in the cage frame 30 and rotatable by means of chain wheels 40, 42 of an electric motor (not shown), and each carrying a roller 39 which, when the arms are pivoted upwardly from their rest positions 44, engages a projection 46 on the side of the container to lift it off its shaft 21 and deposit it outside the cage on a trolley (not shown) whereupon further rotation of the arms 37 to position 50 causes them to disengage from the projections 46. Reverse operation of the mechanism is employed to load a container. Interlocking means may be provided to prevent movement of the chains 14 unless the arms 37 are in parked position 44, and means may also be provided for effecting automatic opening of the landing door on arrival at any floor level at which the cage stops and for giving a visual or audible signal. The conveyer chains may be replaced by one or more wheels.
