[Also in Division F2] A hospital trolley comprises a wheeled chassis frame 1 and a platform 2 pivoted on a transverse axis 3 to the chassis frame at about the middle of its length so that a patient lying on the platform can be tilted through a required angle, means being provided for retaining the platform in a horizontal position or in any one of a number of tilted positions, a double acting spring counterpoise or damper 5 being provided to yieldingly resist tilting of the platform in either direction from the horizontal and to assist restoration of the platform to the horizontal. As shown in Fig. 2 the damper comprises a telescopic device consisting of tubes 7, 8 containing a spring 15 which resists extension of the device and a spring 14 which resists contraction of the device. The tube 7 is pivotally connected to the platform 2 and the tube 8 is pivotally connected at 11 to the chassis frame of the trolley. The springs 14, 15 are unstressed when the platform is horizontal. The platform may be prevented from pivoting about the axis 3 by making the damper 5 rigid. This is effected by means of a bolt 19 which is urged by a spring 20 mounted on the tube 7 into one of a number of holes 18 formed in the tube 8. The bolt 19 may be released from the hole 18 by means of a ramp 22 which is normally held away from the bolt 19 by a spring 29, the ramp being mounted on a rod 23 which may be pulled against the action of the spring 29 by actuating a lever 24.
