Abstract

Thiazole compounds of the general formula: <FORM:0951885/C2/1> in which R is a hydrogen atom, a phenyl or naphthyl group or a phenyl group substituted with nitro, halogen, alkyl containing 1 to 3 carbon atoms or alkoxy containing 1 to 3 carbon atoms; R1 represents the same groups as those for R but may also be an alkyl group with 1 to 8 carbon atoms are prepared by refluxing a compound of formula: <FORM:0951885/C2/2> in which X is a halogen atom, in an inert solvent, with thiourea or ammonium dithiocarbamate to produce compounds in which R2 is an amino or mercapto group, respectively. As inert solvents methanol and ethanol (which may be aqueous) or acetone may be used.
