[Also in Division B4] In an edge trimming and finishing machine for unattached shoe soles or heels having a rotary grinding- wheel 8, Fig. 1, and a coaxial follower roller 9, a support plate 7 for the workpiece and a template 12 and in which the tool 8 and roller 9 are movable, e.g. by means of a spring, in a radial direction towards the plate 7, the plate 7 is rotatably mounted in an eccentric position on a driven disc 3. The disc is rotated about a stationary shaft 2 carrying a gear 1 which through a gear 6 engages a gear 5 non-rotatably fixed to the plate 7. The ratio between the gears 1, 5 is preferably 1:2. The template 12 and workpiece 11 are secured to the plate 7 by means of a vacuum unit 13. In a modification, Fig. 6, the template and workpiece are secured to the plate 7 by pneumatic or hydraulic means and to this end, the machine comprises a stationary member 20 on which is pivotally mounted an arm 21 having pivotally mounted thereon an arm 22 the free end 23 of which carries a cylinder 24 in which is slidable a piston with a non-rotatable piston-rod 29 which is connected through a clutch 31 to a pressure member 30 which is adapted to act on the plate 7, the member 30 having a peripheral contour corresponding to that of the plate 7, the clutch being arranged to permit the member 30 to be rotated by the plate 7 when pressure is exerted by the piston-rod on the plate 7 whilst when this pressure is discontinued, the member 30 is non-rotatably locked to the piston-rod. The cylinder 24 carries a steel plate 25 associated with an electromagnet 28 which when energized locks the cylinder 24 against pivotal movement when the rotary movement of the plate 7 is stopped. The electromagnet is automatically energized when the plate 7 reaches its stopping position. The movement of the piston is controlled by a foot lever and two push-button switches are provided which, when depressed when the member 30 is in its lowered position, control the pressure exerted upon the piston and the circular movements of the plate 7.
