Abstract

951,698. Baling machines. I. J. SUTHERLAND. Nov. 19, 1962 [Aug. 21, 1961], No. 30039/62. Heading B5F. In a machine for harvesting hay comprising an open-topped chamber 16 carried by a wheeled trailer, hay is charged (by an elevator 46) into the chamber, compressed by an hydraulic compression member 37 . . . 39 and then ejected through the rear wall 19 which is opened for this purpose. The compression member comprises three panels 37, 38, 39, two of which are arranged at an adjustable inclination to form a ridged top to the stack of hay. For filling the chamber 16 the compression member, its hydraulic cylinder 32 and supporting framework 30 are pivoted to the chain line position by double-acting hydraulic cylinders 43. The front wall of the chamber has a hinged panel 21 to facilitate tying twine round the stack. The bottom of the chamber comprises tines 12 which can be lowered for unloading the stack by means of pivoted arms 15 carrying wheels 14 as in Specification 910,498.
