Abstract
Fluorotriazines of formula: <FORM:0950851/C2/1> are obtained from the corresponding chlorotriazines and at least one normal equivalent of a neutral salt of hydrofluoric acid; in the above formula R1, R2 and R3 are hydrogen, C1-4 alkyl or alkenyl, benzyl, or alkoxyalkyl in which the alkoxy and alkyl residues each have 1-3 carbon atoms, and R4 is as defined for R1-R3 but cannot be hydrogen, or the pairs of alkyl radicals R1/R2 and/or R3/R4 may be bound t each direct or by way of an oxygen atom, forming with the N a heterocyclic ring. The preferred fluoride is KF; others specified are NaF, NH4F, CaF2, ZnF2 and SbF3. Solvents such as dimethyl formamide, ethylene glycol diethyl ether and diethylene glycol diethyl ether may be used. Examples and suitable starting materials are given. The compounds of the formula given inhibit plant growth (see Division A5). Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 872,313.ALSO:The invention comprises a process for inhibiting the growth of undesirable plants on arable land which comprises applying to said land and/or plants a compound of the formula below, in finely divided form or as a composition with a carrier material, and also compositions for inhibiting plant growth, in particular weed-killers, containing a compound of the formula below and a carrier therefor. The active materials are those of formula <FORM:0950851/A5-A6/1> where R1, R2 and R3 are hydrogen, C1-4 alkyl or alkenyl, benzyl, or alkoxyalkyl in which the alkoxy and alkyl residues each have 1-3 carbon atoms, and R4 is as defined for R1-R3 but cannot be hydrogen. The compositions may be solutions, emulsions, suspensions or dusts. The carrier may be itself phytotonic, e.g. high-boiling mineral oil fractions, or inert. Specified carriers are mineral oil fractions, coal tar oils, vegetable and animal oils, which may contain solvents such as alcohols, ketones, cyclic hydrocarbons and chlorinated hydrocarbons; talcum, diatomaceous earth, kaolin, bentonite, calcium carbonate, boric acid, tricalcium phosphate, sawdust, ground cork, charcoal; and water containing wetting or dispersing agents. Other materials which may be present in the compositions are fatty acids, resins, wetting agents, glue, casein, alginates, bactericides, fungicides, and other substances for influencing plant growth, such as 3-amino-1,2,4-triazole and salts of a ,a -dichloropropionic acid. Additional components employed in examples are diacetone alcohol, kieselguhr and ammonium sulphate. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 872,313.
