Abstract

949,975. Bearings. BROWN, BOVERI & CO. Ltd. Dec. 14, 1960 [Dec. 14, 1959], No. 42986/60. Heading F2A. In a thrust bearing,. a bearing bushing 1 is supported in a bearing base 5 by resilient joints so as to be rotatable about two axes which intersect each other perpendicularly, the joints being rigid as regards thrust, tension and bending but not as regards torsion. The bushing 1, Fig. 1, is supported by the resilient joints 2 in a housing 3 which is supported by resilient joints 4 in the base 5. In a modification, the joints 2 and 4 are each replaced by a unit as shown in Fig. 2, which comprises an inner ring 7 connected by bars 6 to an outer ring 8. The units replacing the joints 2 each have the inner ring 7 fixed to the bushing 1 and the outer ring 8 fixed to the housing 3, and the units replacing the joints 4 each have the inner ring 7 fixed to the housing 3 and the outer ring 8 fixed to the base 5. Torsional movements cause the bars to assume an S-shape.
