Abstract
949,597. Tank closures. GENERAL MOTORS Ltd. Aug. 3, 1962 [Aug. 21, 1961], No. 30155/61. Heading B8T. A fuel tank closure cup 1 detachably secured to the end of a filler neck 16 houses a spring disc 4 attached to the cap by a rivet 5, and a cup 6 retained within the cap by lugs 3. The spring disc and cup have vent openings 14 and 12 respectively. The spring disc 4 forces the rim 10 of the cup 6 into contact with the upper surface 17 of the filler neck 16 when the cap is applied. The fluid seal between the spring disc 4 and the cup rim 10, and between the rim 10 and the filler neck may be improved by annular gaskets. Rivet 5 may be omitted and the spring disc 4, retained by lugs 3, located centrally of the cap 1 by means of central depressions in the cap and disc. The disc securing rivet may extend through an enlarged central vent in the cup and a flange thereon contacts the undersurface of the cup when the cap is removed from the filler neck, but leaves an annular vent opening when the cap is applied.
