Abstract
949,425. Edge filters for liquids. PERMUTIT CO. Ltd. June 4, 1962 [June 14, 1961], No. 21483/62. Heading B1D. A filter comprises a stack of flanged annular discs 5 made of thermoplastic synthetic resin and mounted on a hollow shaft 1 fixed in an opening 2 in the bottom 3 of a vessel (not shown) containing granular ion-exchange resin. The discs 5 are provided with radial ribs 12 and are compressed against the bottom 3 of the vessel by a nut 4, the ribs serving to prevent the discs becoming distorted. The upper part of the shaft 1 has a substantially square crosssection, Fig. 2, the corners 11 of which engage with recesses 14 in the discs whereby the ribs on adjacent discs are located in similar positions. Liquid in the vessel enters the centre of the shaft 1 through slits 7 defined by the flanges 13, spaces between the ribs, gaps 6 between the shaft and the discs, and rectangular ports 8. An opening 10 is included in the shaft through which air may be passed to scour the bed of granular resin in the vessel. A port 9 is provided as shown, Fig. 1, to permit liquid to escape from the filter.
