Abstract

Clear, self-emulsifying oils which give stable emulsions with any optional amounts of water are produced by incorporating in the said oils a mixture of emulsifying agents containing 80 to 20% of a petroleum sulphonate of an average molecular weight over 400, the remainder of the emulsifying agent being a polyglycol ether derived from the addition of 2 to 20 mols. of ethylene oxide to a higher molecular weight saturated or unsaturated aliphatic alcohol or an alkyl phenol, which contains hydrocarbon residues with 10 to 20 carbon atoms. The oil may be mineral oil, e.g. spindle oil, or sperm oil, train oil, castor coil, or neat's-foot oil, or triolein. The products are of use as metal-working oils and for treating leather and textiles.
